Our Story

Giving bottles a second life since 1999

Rewind Glass began in 1999, when Andy turned his love of working with glass into a business.

After studying glassmaking at university, he worked with The Prince's Trust (now The King's Trust), who helped him develop his business idea and supported him with a grant to get started.

Glass bottles were a cheap and readily available raw material, so Andy began experimenting with ways to turn them into something new. One idea led to another, and Rewind Glass was born.

Nearly 30 years later, he's still creating clocks, drinking glasses, jewellery and other pieces in his small East London workshop.

From London's bars to the workshop

Many of the bottles come from bars and restaurants across London, particularly around Covent Garden.

Using his glassmaking skills and techniques developed over the years, Andy transforms them into something useful and a little different.

Wherever possible, he keeps the original labels. The odd scuff, scratch or mark is part of the bottle's history, and we think that's worth preserving.

No two pieces are quite the same, and that's exactly how we like it.

A little help behind the scenes

Rewind Glass is very much Andy's business, although he does get a little help from his long-suffering wife!

With a degree in Environmental Studies and a passion for sustainability, she was drawn to the recycling element from the start. In fact, it was one of the things that brought them together.

These days, Andy does the glassmaking while Mrs Rewind Glass looks after the website, provides technical support and occasionally offers an opinion. Whether it's asked for or not!
